The area: Software Engineering
Google's Software Engineers develop the next-generation technologies for which we've become world-renowned. In addition to revolutionizing search technology, we use our world-class programming skills to innovate in a number of other areas as well. Our projects include working on advanced information-retrieval algorithms, massive scalability and storage solutions, and large-scale applications that enrich the user experience. We also work extensively on networking systems, advertising systems and complex transaction systems in consumer applications.
The role: Software Engineer
Google is expanding its Engineering Centre in Sydney. We need world-class engineers with excellent problem solving and software development skills to develop Google?s next generation of products. Our engineering team, which includes some of the key people who created Google Maps, is applying its ideas to a range of problems including data representation, geospatial search, data mining, machine learning, natural language processing, server architecture, computer graphics, web clients, user interfaces, and scalability issues arising from huge amounts of data and a rapidly increasing user population.
Our Sydney Engineering team is solving fascinating and difficult problems in computer science and making a positive difference in tens of millions of lives every day. Google engineers are always on the forefront in the creation of new and exciting products in a number of areas, and play a key role in the development of one of the world's most powerful computing infrastructures.
So whatever your skill may be, Google wants to harness it to develop the next generation of Google products and bring order to a chaotic web.
Requirements:
* BS in Computer Science or equivalent (PhD a plus).
* Several years of software development experience.
* Experience with C and/or Java (C, Python and JavaScript also useful).
* Enthusiasm for solving interesting problems.
* Experience working with two or more from the following; web application development, Unix/Linux or Windows environments, distributed systems, machine learning, information retrieval, network programming and/or developing large software systems, Security software development, mobile application development, natural language processing.
